My name is Robert  Lay and I work in Student Affairs and have done so for the last few years. To get to this position I had to get a Master’s degree and am currently working on my Doctorate degree in higher education. In getting and pursuing these degrees I've learned about how students develop and how to assist student develop in a college setting . However, the one thing these classes didn't teach me is how to cope with a motivated, engaged, and overall great student having to discontinue their education because they do not have the finances needed to purse their dreams, and unfortunately, I learned this the hard way . It was during my first year working in  a college when I was significantly impacted by this issue. I had built a great relationship with  a student with countless potential, but they had to drop out of school. To make matters worse, this wouldn't be the last time I had built a relationship with a talented student that had to drop out because of circumstances out of their control. In short, these experiences have led me to do all that's in my power to make a difference. Though with my current financial status I can't stop this from happening at our college's around America, with your help we can try to help one student at a time overcome this hurdle.
